Natural tourism, trekking, fishing in the Bajoz dam, hunting in the mountains, monastery visits or visits to the "Aperos Del Ayer" Museum (which visit we can negotiate directrly) are some interesting options to spend a day.

In La Santa Espina you can visit:

  • A show hall with ploughs and other farmer's machines

All of them in La Santa Espina Rural Lifestyle Interpretation Centre.

Interpretation Centre

The dam was built in the 60s and has a capacity of 60.000 m3. It was designed to suplly water to a crop area of 70 Ha. With this project, 14.800 m of irrigation channels, eight wells and some water tanks with a capacity of about 400 m3 were also built. In the 80s, the dam got dry many times so it was forbade to yse it to irrigate.

The Dam

In La Senda del Pantano, (The way to the Dam), some of its places can be visited also in the 4-wheels motorcycles routes, you will be able to enjoy the high moor. From here, you can see vineyards, cereal, alfalfa or sunflower crops. The presence of rabbits is usual in this area so, do not get surprised if one of them jumps next to you. Also El Monte (the Mount), where if you look carefully, you will find tracks of wild boars, foxes or wild cats: animals that frequent this area. In "the dam", with the dam of the Bajoz River, inflowing the Hornija River, which shows its best face. The calm of the place invites animal species, like ducks, herons, badgers and even wolves, to quench their thirst.

La Santa Espina is not the only place to visit, few kilometers away there are a lot of places worth a visit. Whether you go for a ride in a 4-wheels motorcycle or you go for a walk or by bike, there are other places:

Following the way round the dam and going up, we can arrive at "El Fuerte", an old hunter's house. From here, it is possible to see a beautiful landscape.

Your walk or your ride in the 4-wheels motorcycle can also take place through "El Camino". A path appears on its left side that leads us to a Roman bridge and, crossing it, we arrive at a waterwheel, totally in ruins.

Surroundings

Next to the road and if we cross the walls, we will be in the enclosure of the Monastery Urueña, which is 8 Km away. It is an excellent example of our surroundings; the Joaquín Díaz museum, the Bells Museum, the Musical Instruments Museum of Luís Delgado, Archeological Museum with the visit to the "Anunciada" chapel and the walk of the walls, are some great alternatives.

Bridge

Villagarcía located about a 8 Km away, has a collegiate church museum

San Cebrián de Mazote, a 4 Km away, has an original Mozarabic church, declared National Monument.

Castromonte, 8 Km. away, is a typical village in our moors, with excellent cheese and cakes and pastries.

Medina de Rioseco, Ciudad de los Almirantes (City of the Admirals of Castile), 22 Km. away, is famous for its cakes and pastries, its bread, its Main Street (Rúa Mayor) and its Holy Week Celebrations (declared National Turist Interest) and its churches also. It has a parochial museum where the images for the Holy Week processions are kept; as well as other religious treasures, which are kept in another museum located in the Sta. María Church, a representative one of the area of "Tierra de Campos", in Valladolid.

Another reason to visit "El Rincón del Labrador" is the use of 4-wheels motorcycles to visit the surroundings, as explained above, always with the security and vigilance of an instructor.
